07 Oct BSG Ecology celebrates 25th Anniversary
On 4 October 2022 we met up at Coombe Abbey, near Coventry, to celebrate our 25th year of ecological consultancy. The Abbey has been converted to a hotel, and is set within beautiful gardens and mature parkland, and was a lovely venue for the occasion.
This was our first company-wide post-Covid meet up, and a great opportunity for the newer recruits to meet the longer serving staff members face-to-face, and for everyone to socialise in a relaxing, informal setting.
The day started with a series of short talks. These included a presentation on Capability Brown, the gardener and landscape architect responsible for re-engineering large areas of the English (and a very small proportion of the Welsh) countryside in the 1700s, and whose legacy is present for all to see on the estate at Coombe. Other presentations focused on applying infra-red and other technologies during bat surveys (positives and limitations), our ongoing work monitoring bird and bat fatality at wind farms (using search dogs), and knowledge gained from navigating through River Condition Assessment as part of wider Biodiversity Gain calculations.
In the afternoon we split into teams to do treasure hunts, archery, to build marble runs from pipes and bamboo canes and various other challenges, before sitting down for a semi-formal dinner and quiz. The open bar tab appeared to be warmly welcomed.
Overall bringing the team together felt a very positive way to express gratitude to them for their hard work and dedication to the company. The creative project solutions shared, connections and relationships established feel a very good basis for building the next 25 years at BSG.
