09 Jul BSG Director Kirsty Kirkham appointed to South Yorkshire Local Nature Recovery Strategy Panel
BSG Ecology Director Kirsty Kirkham has recently been appointed to the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s (SYMCA) newly formed Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) Advisory Panel. SYMCA is the responsible authority for the preparation of the South Yorkshire LNRS.
The purpose of the panel is to help SYMCA develop their vision for South Yorkshire’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy through encouraging a range of perspectives, providing challenge and generating new ideas on key topics. The panel membership includes local representatives from universities, local authorities, developers, utilities, farmers and conservation organisations who are considered to be relevant stakeholders to help position the LNRS to be successful to deliver.
South Yorkshire is one strategy area of the 48 LNRS areas in England. LNRS are a new form of spatial strategy to identify relevant priorities for nature recovery, identifying the current valuable areas for biodiversity and to propose where we can enhance and create nature networks in the right places and at a landscape scale.
Kirsty Kirkham said:

We need land to be made available for new spaces for nature, we need to strengthen existing nature networks and help people enjoy connecting with local nature spaces where we live and work.
