BSG Ecology Highly Commended in CIEEM Awards Medium Consultancy of the Year Award 2025

On 20th June 2025 ten members of the team from across our offices attended the annual CIEEM Awards in London, where we were delighted to be Highly Commended in the Medium Consultancy of the Year category and Commended in the Best Practice in Knowledge Sharing and Best Practice in Innovation categories.

The day was a great opportunity to celebrate with colleagues and to learn about the inspiring conservation projects being carried by charities, universities, community groups and the private sector across the UK.

In Highly Commending BSG in the Medium Consultancy of the Year CIEEM noted that ‘In every aspect of BSG Ecology’s work from field to policy, research and restoration, the company demonstrates what it means to deliver high-quality, consistent and practical outcomes. BSG is investing in the future of the profession – and helping others to do the same’.

The Knowledge Sharing award commendation was for our research on Red Kites and Welsh Wind Farms. The study was led by BSG in partnership with BTO Cymru and Cardiff University and funded through the industry body RenewableUK. CIEEM commented ‘This project demonstrates the power of strategic, cross-sector collaboration to improve the evidence base for ecological impact assessments. It delivers real-world value for conservation, planning, and development, ensuring decisions are informed by robust science and helping to balance renewable energy goals with species protection across Wales and beyond.’

The Innovation award commendation was for Project Juniper, a bespoke geographic information system with a cloud-based database. Juniper has been developed through internal collaboration between GIS consultants and ecologists to allow us to work more efficiently and effectively with our data. CIEEM noted that  ‘Juniper represents a practical and innovative response to long-standing data management challenges in ecology, setting a strong example of how digital tools can advance both environmental outcomes and business sustainability.’

To be short-listed and Commended in three categories bears testimony to the collaborative efforts of our people in driving high standards and is a great reflection of a wonderful team.

Ecologist Sidney Vickress said: “It was inspiring to learn about so many notable achievements in the environmental sector. I was particularly proud to be there as part of BSG Ecology, celebrating the sectors’ successes with colleagues.”

“For BSG to be short-listed in three award categories is a great achievement and shows the company’s commitment to good practice and continued professional development. I am very proud to be a member of the team.” Jo Conway, Senior Ecologist
