Sophie joined BSG Ecology as GIS Consultant in May 2021.
Sophie has nearly ten years of experience using GIS software covering a range of different purposes, including ecological services, flood and water management, vegetation mapping and creation of topographic datasets. She has experience using ArcGIS and QGIS, including the use of various geoprocessing and analytical tools, as well as experience of manipulating and analysing large datasets.
Sophie provides practice wide GIS support including producing maps to support technical reports, undertaking the mapping required for biodiversity gain assessments and assists with day-to-day management of the company GIS database. She believes data management is a fundamental aspect of providing high quality spatial data outputs
Prior to joining BSG Ecology, Sophie worked for an environmental consultancy for 3 years, within the area of Marine and Coastal Risk management. She was responsible for delivering a wide range of flood risk projects through the use of multiple modelling software as well as GIS.
Sophie has a BSc (Hons) in Physical Geography and a PgCert in Flood and Coastal Risk Management both from Lancaster University. GIS was a large influence in her undergraduate degree, her dissertation project used ArcGIS to examine retreat rates of two Icelandic glaciers.
