16 Jun Promotion of the Profession: Leading an event for Freeths Environmental Law Team
Ecologists from BSG’s Derbyshire office spent an enjoyable and informative afternoon leading an event for members of Freeth’s Environmental Law team who’d come together from various parts of the UK for the day.
As well as enjoying the chance to catch up in the glorious weather the walk took in several points of interest that allowed Principal Ecologist’s Guy Miller and Dan Foster to discuss the complexities of badger survey, dealing with trees with bat potential, and view one of BSG Ecology’s nearby bat mitigation projects, which included roost features in a restored barn.
The highlight of the day was a visit to some spectacular species-rich meadows; this enabled us to focus the discussion on grassland habitats, habitat condition and the influence of differing managing regimes. Habitat condition is a key factor in biodiversity gain assessment, and it was good to have the opportunity to look at this with Freeths, who like BSG Ecology, are often required to advise on Biodiversity Gain issues, although from a different perspective.
