25 Oct BSG Ecologists lead bat walk at Ditchley Park
BSG Ecology Director Peter Shepherd and Ecologists Natalie Sabin, Kai Hayes, Callum Waldie and Joe Grainger-Hull recently led an autumnal evening bat walk for staff members of Ditchley Park around the beautiful pleasure grounds of the estate near Charlbury in Oxfordshire.
Peter provided a short introduction to bat ecology before the group, armed with ultrasonic bat detectors and headtorches, embarked on a scenic walking route through some of the estates parkland, woodland and lakeside habitats.
The group were able to observe species such as common pipistrelle, soprano pipistrelle, likely Myotis species bats, and possible barbastelle calls during the walk.
Attendees from the Ditchley Park team kindly raised £100 for the Oxfordshire Bat Group, which will help contribute towards bat conservation in the county.

“Everyone really enjoyed the walk and the opportunity to learn more about the bats we have not just at Ditchley, but in the UK and the World”.

“The BSG Ecology team thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and enjoyed sharing their knowledge on UK bat species during the walk.”
Following this success, Ditchley Park and the BSG Oxford team have agreed to run another bat walk in the future.
