Gemma has worked in ecological consultancy since 2015 and joined BSG Ecology in March 2020. Prior to joining BSG she worked for consultancies in Lincolnshire and London, where she has delivered a range of survey work and gained experience working on a nationally significant infrastructure project.
Gemma has experience of carrying out a wide range of ecological surveys including extended Phase 1 habitat survey and protected species survey (great crested newt, hazel dormouse, bat, reptile, badger, otter, barn owl and water vole). Gemma holds a Level 2 Natural England Survey Class licence for hazel dormouse and bats, and a Level 1 Natural England Survey Class Licence for great crested newt and is trained in invertebrate sampling surveys. She has also achieved a Level 4 in the Field Identification Skills Certificate for botany and has completed hedgerow assessments and NVC surveys. She is involved in writing technical reports, and preparing mitigation and management plans. Gemma has experience in completing BREEAM assessments for ecology, biodiversity gain assessments and is certified to undertake Modular River Surveys and River Condition Assessments as part of Biodiversity Metric calculations.
Gemma has a MBiolSci (Hons) degree in Biology with Conservation and Biodiversity from the University of Sheffield. Gemma volunteers as the chair of the Lincolnshire Dormouse Group and leads surveys of a re-established population of hazel dormouse in a Lincolnshire woodland complex for the National Dormouse Monitoring Programme.
