Katie joined BSG Ecology in July 2024. She has over 6 years experience working in consultancy.

Katie has experience in delivering Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments, BREEAM Assessments, protected species survey and mitigation works for a range of development types including residential and commercial developments, road and rail infrastructure projects.

Katie can undertake habitat surveys using the UK Habitat Classification System and advise on Biodiversity Gain requirements using the Statutory Biodiversity Metric. She is able to identify potential ecological constraints in relation to protected species and provide appropriate recommendations for mitigation, compensation and enhancement through project team liaison and production of technical reports.

Katie is a keen ornithologist and has over 14 years’ experience of birdwatching and can undertake breeding bird surveys in a range of habitat types. Katie holds a Level 2 Natural England Class licence for bats and Level 1 Natural England class licence for great crested newts. Katie joined her local bat group in 2017 and now helps to co-ordinate and lead events including bat box checks and hibernation surveys at sites across South Yorkshire.

Katie graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Science. This included a sandwich year placement at an environmental consultancy where she was involved in ecological survey and mitigation works including large scale great crested newt and reptile translocations.
