Sidney joined BSG Ecology in January 2022. Previously working as a freelance ecologist, they have experience in protected species surveys on a variety of UK-based projects including residential, commercial, and public sector developments, and in environmental data management.
Sidney has undertaken bat survey work within the UK and overseas, including box checks and netting surveys for bat ringing projects, with voluntary organisations. Sidney holds a Natural England level 2 bat survey licence and is certified in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue (City & Guilds NPTC 0039-22) for the purpose of aerial inspection of trees.
Sidney graduated with a first-class BSc in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Science in 2019, and a Master of Research in Applied Science in 2021. For their undergraduate thesis, they used GIS to investigate the use of fragmented agricultural woodland by Bechstein’s bat Myotis bechsteini. He developed the GIS model for his postgraduate thesis to explore how river quality and landscape effects foraging and commuting Daubenton’s bats Myotis daubentonii.
