24 Sep Welsh team visit to Celtic Wildflowers
BSG’s Welsh team celebrated the International Week of Happiness at Work by getting together for a team day at Celtic Wildflowers, in Penllergaer, Swansea.
Celtic Wildflowers was set up to grow and supply plants of local provenance to support conservation initiatives in South Wales and beyond, and the day started with an overview from founders Barry and Sandra Stewart on the work they and their team do and some of the exciting projects they are supporting. The fourteen-strong BSG team then spent the morning completing a variety of tasks including cutting back willow along the entrance road and weeding around the growing areas. Lunch was at the RSPCA’s Llys Nini café, with dessert being Natalie’s lovely chocolate Guinness cake. During the afternoon we continued maintenance work that included removal of invading willow seedlings, Yorkshire-fog and willowherbs from carpets of sphagnum mosses being grown on site.
A really good and very different day out for the team which everyone enjoyed. It was great to contribute positively and in a practical way to such a brilliant and inspiring conservation initiative.
